About RIBS
SDM Research Institute for Biomedical Sciences is an independent teaching and research institute that started in the year 2019 under the Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University, Dharwad. The institute is intending to conduct research in the advanced and emerging areas of modern science with innovation and initiative for indigenous technology and product development.
2016
SDM Life Science Research Center was established on the 5th floor of specialty hospital building of SDM College of Medical Sciences.
2017
SDMLSRC was dramatically recognized as SDM Biomedical Research Center due to the active involvement of researchers in collaborative research.
2018
The institute established specialized research facilities including pharmaceutical grade clean room.
Academic Programs
The institute offers academic programs, M. Sc. in Biomedical Science on the basis of the Choice Based Credit System and Ph.D. program in Biological Sciences as per the UGC guidelines.
M.Sc. and Ph.D. (Biomedical Science)
Biomedical science is in an amalgamation of biological sciences and medical sciences. The focus of this program is to gain advanced knowledge and skills in the field of Biomedical Sciences, which would create a strong base for research and development for innovative ideas.
Training
SDMRIBS offers an interactive hands-on training program in "Cell Culture and Analysis Techniques" to expose participants to a broad range of essential skills required for cell culture and maintenance.
Research @ RIBS
The major emphasis on research at SDMRIBS is towards biomedical areas such as Human microbiome, cell and cell-derived products/models/therapeutics and non-communicable diseases.
Gut-Microbiota in Health and Diseases
Our Institute focuses on researching the human microbiota's impact on health and diseases, investigating immune function, metabolism, mental health, and developing targeted interventions for prevention and treatment.
Cancer-Microbiome-Immune Axis
Exploring the Cancer-Microbiome-Immune Axis, our team investigates the intricate connections between the microbiome, cancer development, treatment response, and immune system interactions. We aim to develop personalized interventions for enhanced cancer care.
Translational Glycobiology
In the field of Translational Glycobiology, our research focuses on understanding the roles of glycans in diseases, developing diagnostic tools, and exploring glycan-based therapeutics for improved patient outcomes.
Cells & Cell-based Models and Therapeutics
Our team expert in Cells & Cell-based Models and Therapeutics research. By leveraging cell-based models, we investigate disease mechanisms, develop novel therapies, and strive for personalized treatments for better patient care.
Assay Development
With a focus on Assay Development, our folks address drug resistance and drug toxicity. We develop robust assays to evaluate drug efficacy, identify resistance mechanisms, and assess potential toxicities, facilitating more effective and safer drug development.
Computational Biology
We employ advanced methods to analyse data, model biological processes, and predict molecular interactions. Integrating computational and experimental approaches, we advance understanding, develop tools for drug discovery, and precision medicine.
